Necessity
Happy wordy Wednesday!
Need vs. want. We all have needs and we all have wants. Simple basic human things everyone can relate to.
But do you ever feel that your needs are often overshadowed by your wants?
Now there is nothing wrong with wanting something. Wanting that new purse, that new house, or that new phone. But sometimes it takes us away from what really need.
All too often we are taught and encouraged to give in to what will satisfy us in this very moment. Again, everything is fine in moderation.
But more often than not, that can take away from what we need.
What we need is more important than what we want. Sounds easier said than done. Sometimes the line between a need and a want are blurred, and we aren't sure which one should take priority over the other. Therefore, we gravitate towards the option that seems easiest, most satisfying. It takes wisdom, discernment, and discipline to know the difference.
I am by no means an expert on this topic. I'm still learning. How I began more and more aware of wants vs. needs is when I really started to delve into The Bible. This morning I was reading my daily devotional book "Embraced" written by Lysa TerKeurst. Where she talked about want vs. need. This was a reminder that I really needed today.
She shared this verse:
"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:19.
It is a beautiful reminder for me to rely on God and ask for guidance in all the decision I make today. The big ones and the small ones.
With Care,
Emily-Kate
